Beta Nigeria insists on better funding for the education sector

The need for every child, as a citizen of Nigeria to get better education was the focus of a roundtable meeting which held in Abuja on Thursday.

The organizer, Beta Nigeria Campaign,  a growing movement with a drive towards improving education outcomes has called for better and increased funding of the education sector.

The roundtable which attracted stakeholders from the civil society, the media and others from government and private sector is targeted at amplifying the demand for education reform, which is seen as a critical investment in Nigeria’s future stability and prosperity.

The National Lead of Beta Nigeria, Abdulsalam Badamasi says the organisation will keep engaging government at various levels towards ensuring that the challenge of out of school children is completely addressed in the country.

According to Badamasi, issues around mental health and disability is one that they will continue to fight for to ensure there is inclusiveness.

“The voices already exist, so what we are doing as an organization is to amplify the voices. We are going to make sure that we put the issue of exclusion in the front, so that everybody can be able to put in their support”, Badamasi said.

He went further to state that when all the children in Nigeria are able to gain access to quality education, the country is bound to have a better future.

While speaking on the collaborative declaration which was signed by all participants at the event, Badamasi stated that it will help Beta Nigeria secure a unified commitment from stakeholders in Nigeria in increasing demand for improved and quality education and also hold government accountable.

Badamasi further highlighted that, “we are expanding the framing in the education conversation; we are bringing in new voices, and in the process of bringing in new voices who are going to ensure that part of it.

“We call on our politicians, service providers, agencies, and parents to come together to see how they can increase the certain level of commitment and investment in education.

“We believe that once that increased investment is realized in education, then most of the problems and issues in education can be resolved.”

The roundtable was launched in January 2024, attracting public interest in the initiatives and its potential to revitalize the Nigerian education system.
