New Year: Ekweremadu Tasks FG on Security, State Police

  The need for the private sector to be more involved in the development of education in the country have been emphasized. Ekweremadu visits Enugu correctional centre, harps on decongestion of facilities … 8 inmates regain freedom as lawmaker pays their fines

  Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has called for urgent steps to decongest the nation’s correctional facilities through improved and faster dispensation of justice and special interventions by governments, charitable organisations and Nigerians.   Ekweremadu made the call on Thursday when he visited the Enugu Correctional Centre where he paid the fines of eight inmates to enable them regain their freedoms.   This was even as he pledged to immediately do a water project in the correctional facility to improve the living conditions of the inmates.   “I was informed by the Controller of Corrections in Enugu State that many inmates were still in this correctional facility because they had no one to pay their fines. Psychiatric Nurse Defeats four Doctors in Court, gets N2.5million cost award for defamation

  An Enugu High Court presided over Justice E. M Egumgbe has awarded two million, five hundred thousand naira cost against four doctors working with Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Enugu for defamation. The court ordered the doctors, Ubochi Vincent, Unaogu Ngozi, Justin Acho and Ugwuonye Onyekachi who are the defendants in the defamation case brought before it by the plaintiff, Afam Ndu, to pay the money to the plantiff after proving that their allegations amounted to defamation. The defendants (Ubochi Vincent, Unaogu Ngozi, Justin Acho and Ugwuonye Onyekachi), had accused the plaintiff of rape, murder and possession of fake certicates, a development that made him to approach the court in 2017 seeking for redress, and damage of 20 million naira. But, after listening to the arguments of both counsels, justice Egumgbe noted that both the plaintiff and defendants agreed that there was a petition by the defendant against the plaintiff to ministry of health under which both are working.
