EKWEREMADU ESCAPES ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

  The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, escaped suspected assassination attempt, Tuesday . The attempt occurred at about 10:00am between Apo Flyover and Dantata Construction Company’s yard, close to the Old Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters junction on his way to work.

SOUTH EAST GOVERNORS MOVE TO ENSURE PEACE IN THE ZONE.

The governors of the South East zone have called on Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign of State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to continue to toe the line of peace as the only way to ensure economic development of the zone and Nigeria at large. In a communiqué read by the Imo State Governor Rochas Okokrocha at the end of their meeting at the Government House, Enugu, they resolved to consult widely with Ohanaeze, traditional rulers, Development Unions, the Clergy and other stakeholders on how to ensure lasting peace in the zone.

Enugu Government Takes Urgent Steps to Mitigate Effects of the Collapsed Bridge

The collapsed Ikem bridge across Ebonyi River in Isi-Uzo LGA of Enugu state on Friday Following the collapse of a bridge across Ebonyi River in Isi-Uzo local government area of Enugu state, the state government announced yesterday that it is taking urgent steps to ensure speedy completion of a new bridge already billed to replace the collapsed one. State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Patrick Ikpenwa who inspected the site of the collapse yesterday explained that it was in view of the week state of the bridge that the state government had commenced the construction of a new one to replace it. He said work on the new one has gone quite far and that at the moment the bridge abutment is already in place and that the abutment is the first and last support of a bridge. EFCC: Chime’s sons ask court to stop father’s probe

Two sons of former Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, have asked an Enugu Federal High Court to dismiss a suit filed by a former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ray Nnaji, to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate their father.   Nnaji filed the suit, which was brought pursuant to Order 34 and 56 (1) of the FHC (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009, the EFCC Act, and the Freedom of Information Act, after what he described as the anti-graft agency’s failure to act on a petition, in which he sought the investigation of several allegations of official corruption against Chime.   The ex-governor’s sons, Nnamdi Chime and Tochukwu Chime, were listed as 4th and 5th respondents in the suit, which came up for mention on Monday.   After the proceedings, presiding judge, Justice D. Senate Committee Inspects Federal Highways In Anambra

The Senate Adhoc Committee on Works has stormed Anambra State to inspect the federal highway and the erosion devastated sites. This was the result of the joint outcry by the people of Anambra State and the motion moved by the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial Zone of Anambra State, Uche Ekwunife, calling for immediate intervention of the federal government on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway which has collapsed completely as well as assistance in checking the increasing devastation of erosion in the state. The leader of the delegation, Senator Barnabas Gemade, expressed surprise at the extent of dilapidation on the expressway as well as the magnitude of erosion in the state.
