Charles is now King of the United Kingdom as HM Queen Elizabeth II dies

HM Queen Elizabeth II Charles immediately became King upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. As heir apparent since the age of three, he has been the longest serving heir to the throne in British history. Upon becoming the sovereign, Charles has the option to take any name he chooses for his reign as King. For example, King George VI’s real name was actually Albert. Two previous monarchs have been called Charles. Charles had already been taking on some of the Queen's engagements this year as her health had become enough of a concern for her to cancel some of her commitments, including the  State Opening of Parliament . Both Charles and Prince William had been prioritizing the Queen's diary over theirs. Both of them had been activated as Counsellors of State, where the Queen delegates her sovereign power for specific purposes, and they were obligated to be even more available for those duties. The Queen died peacefully this afternoon, the Royal Family announced on its

Thomas Tuchel: Chelsea's ruthless reputation for sacking managers continues

Chelsea's ruthless reputation for sacking managers, irrespective of previous success and reputation, lives on with the  brutal dismissal of Thomas Tuchel. If anyone believed new owner Todd Boehly would adopt a lighter and more sympathetic touch to those inhabiting the manager's office at Stamford Bridge than predecessor Roman Abramovich they can now think again. The same rules apply. Poor results equal the sack. Quickly. Boehly's turbulent first 100 days in charge at Chelsea ended with the abrupt removal of the man who won the Champions League in May 2021, six months after arriving to replace sacked Frank Lampard. The American's hands-on approach, coupled with the lack of a sporting director after key figures such as director Marina Granovskaia and technical and performance advisor Petr Cech left, has made Stamford Bridge appear to be an unsettled and somewhat chaotic place. Sacking a manager just days after Chelsea spent more in one transfer window than any other Briti

US bars 'advanced tech' firms from building China factories for 10 years

US tech companies that receive federal funding will be barred from building "advanced technology" facilities in China for 10 years, the Biden administration has said. The guidelines were unveiled as part of a $50bn (£43bn) plan aimed at building up the local semiconductor industry. It comes as business groups have pushed for more government support in an effort to reduce reliance on China. They are faced with a global microchip shortage which has slowed production. "We're going to be implementing the guardrails to ensure those who receive CHIPS funds cannot compromise national security... they're not allowed to use this money to invest in China, they can't develop leading-edge technologies in China.... for a period of ten years,"  according to US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. , explaining the US Chips and Science Act. "Companies who receive the money can only expand their mature node factories in China to serve the Chinese market." The US a
