Former Enugu CJ, Umezulike is dead

Former Chief Judge of Enugu State and Professor of Land and Property Law, Justice Professor Innocent Azubike Umezulike has  died. Justice Umezulike passed away at a private hospital in London, United Kingdom, surrounded by his beloved children Justice Umezulike was an acclaimed legal luminary on Conveyancing, Adverse Possession, Land and Property Law having single-handedly authored and published over 23 books in these fields. Umezulike (OFR, FCIArb) served as Enugu State Chief Judge for over 13 years, remarkably the longest serving Chief Judge in South Eastern Nigeria and the second longest serving Chief Judge in Nigeria. Umezulike during his lifetime would be remembered for receiving over 100 distinguished Legal Honours and Awards. Apart from being the longest serving Chief Judge in South Eastern Nigeria and the second longest serving Chief Judge in Nigeria, Umezulike was also Professor of Land and Property Law. President Buhari Visits Bauchi State Over Windstorm, Market Fire

President Muhammadu Buhari is in Bauchi on a condolence visit to the state. The aircraft conveying the President touched down at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi at about 9:30 am on Thursday. Buhari was welcomed to the state by Governor Muhammed Abubakar and the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Kawuwa Damina. He was also received by the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mustapha Maihaja, as well as the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Mohammed Nadada, among other top government officials.

Ohaneze Ndiigbo warns against treatment of Ndiigbo

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called for a stop to the recurring practice of Ndigbo being made to bear the brunt of any conflict between other ethnic groups in the northern parts of the country. Reacting to the recent looting and burning of the property of Ndigbo in Dan-Anacha, Taraba State, the apex Igbo cultural organization lamented that from the reports of the victims of the attack, there was nothing Ndigbo in Taraba State had said or done to warrant the mayhem unleashed on them by their northern brothers on that day, a recurrence of similar attacks on Ndigbo living in the north in the past. No Federal Public Holiday On June 12 This Year, Says Presidency

  In a tweet on Friday, the Federal Government said while it will not be marked this year, June 12 “in future years will replace May 29th as a national public holiday in celebration of Nigeria Democracy Day.” The President had made the declaration on Wednesday, in honour of the late businessman and politician, Moshood Abiola, who ran for presidency on June 12, 1993. He also conferred a posthumous GCFR title on him as the presumed winner of the election. The Federal Government has announced that June 12 this year will not be marked as a public holiday following its declaration as the new Democracy Day.
