Marvel blockbuster might be up for a 'strange' nomination at the Oscars 2019

........Marvel says the super-hero movie, Black Panther won't be settling for a nomination for just the 'Popular Film' category at the Oscars. Black Panther deserves more than just the 'Popular Film' category at the 2019 Oscars according to Marvel. The movie which upon its release has been adjudged as both a box office and critical success, seems like the likely candidate to emerge winner of the category for 'Popular Film', a new category added to the Oscars earlier in the month. The academy has historically shunned superhero movies for the prestigious ''Best Picture'' honours and with the introduction of the new category, critics are already predicting a likely reoccurence. The presidency has responded to a report that United States president, Donald Trump, allegedly described Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari as 'lifeless' after a meeting between the two leaders on April 30, 2018. According to a report by Financial Times, sources revealed that Trump informed aides after his meeting with Buhari that he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again . "The first meeting, with Nigeria's ailing 75-year-old Muhammadu Buhari in April, ended with the US president telling aides he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again, according to three people familiar with the matter," the newspaper claimed. The alleged comment has led to public ridicule of the president by Nigerians on social medi a and calls for the government to question the US government for an explanation. Enugu Journalists protest alleged brutalisation by security agencies

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, on Thursday protested against the increasing harassment and intimidation of journalists in parts of the country. The protest march, which took place within the premises of the NUJ Press Centre on Rangers Avenue, was led by the Chairman of the Council, Rex Arum. Mr Arum said that the protest followed a directive by the national leadership of the union over the impunity of security agencies and politicians against journalists. He said that events of recent times had made media men endangered species along their duty line. The council chairman said that the contributions of the media toward the enthronement of the current democratic experience seemed to have been forgotten. “Politicians and security agencies should not see the media as enemies,” Arum said. Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue shutdown banks over non payment of revenue.

Director of Finance and Account, Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue, Dr. Aloy Agada (left) with other officials of the board, during the distrainment exercise on four banks and two private companies in Enugu for non-payment of over N200 million taxes due to the state government. Following a court order, the Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue today sealed the business offices of some key commercial banks in Enugu State. Some of those affected are the Rangers Avenue and Ogui Road branches of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) and the two branches of Sterling Bank in Enugu. They are found wanting for non payment of Withholding Tax on interest deduction due to the Enugu State Government for the period of 2015 and 2016, totaling N46 million and N72 million, respectively. It is expected that some other business establishments will be affected in the ongoing exercise.

Enugu Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi urges Corps members to participate IN 2019 elections

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has advised  members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that would participate in the conduct of the 2019 general elections to be guided by national interest. Ugwuanyi gave the advice on Monday in Enugu during the closing ceremony of 2018 Batch ‘B’ orientation course for corps members deployed to the state. The governor was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Josef Udedi. The governor said that the call became necessary following the increasing and critical roles of corps members in the electoral process. “The 2019 general election is fast approaching and corps members, as usual, will play vital roles in making the exercise successful as electoral umpires. “I urge you not to be partisan but to acquit yourselves creditably in order to contribute positively to the smooth electoral system in the nation,” he said.
