CDAs and Consuls General: Your appointment is pivotal to Nigeria’s economic growth -Tuggar

  The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has called   on the newly appointed   Chargé D’affaires and Consuls General to be good ambassadors of Nigeria, asserting that   they are pivotal to the economic drive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.   He further stressed that as seasoned career diplomats they should shun the act of politicking   and recommit themselves to their calling of diplomacy for the collective interest and development of Nigeria.   Reacting on behalf of the new appointees, the just appointed Consul General for the Consulate in New York Ambassador Abubakar Jidda,   reiterated the commitment of his colleagues to uphold the ethos of the profession and pledged to bring the much needed investments to the country.  He further thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the confidence reposed in them.  The new appointees are to resume immediately.   S/N NAME OF CHARGÉ D'A

NPA encourages members to focus on other forms of books for enjoyment of all

  Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) has said apart from the traditional book, it is also encouraging its members to embrace other forms of book, like e-books, in order for everyone to have easy access to the store of knowledge. President of NPA, Chief Cyril Anioke, stated this during a virtual press conference on Tuesday to mark this year’s World Book and Copyright Day, which is celebrated every April 23. With the theme of this year’s celebration being, ‘Read Your Way,’ Chief Anioke acknowledges the fact that there are other forms of book, adding that it is already encouraging its members to go with the technological trend for all categories of people to enjoy reading books. NUJ demands immediate release of kidnapped Channels TV Reporter

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called for the immediate release of the kidnapped Channels Tv reporter, Joshua Rogers. Dr Chris Isiguzo, NUJ President, who made the call while speaking on Friday in Abuja, said Rogers was abducted from his residence in Rumuosi, Port-Harcourt on Thursday night. He was seized by gunmen around 9:00 p.m. as he returned from an official assignment at the Government House. The criminals intercepted him and forcefully took him away in a Channels Television-branded vehicle. “Following the abduction, the abductors contacted his wife, demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release. “The NUJ is deeply concerned about the escalating insecurity faced by journalists and media practitioners in the country. “It is distressing that individuals involved in the vital work of informing the public have become targets of criminal activities. Eid: Tuggar tasks Muslims to remain resilient, pray for peace

The Minsiter of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has tasked the Muslim Ummah all over the world to remain resilient,  in the face of global challenges. He made the statement in his Eid message to Muslims.  In a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alkasim Abdulkadir, he said amidst the Eid celebrations, adherents of the Islamic faith should reflect on the sacrifices and lessons of the concluded month of Ramadan for guidance.  He enjoined the Muslim Ummah to pray for the country and the success of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bequeath dividends of governance to the entirety of the Nigerian nation. He further added that adherents should pray for lasting peace in the country and regions plagued by strife and wars across the world.

EID-EL-FITR: IGP FELICITATES MUSLIM UMMAH, ASSURES OF COMPREHENSIVE SECURITY EMPLACEMENTS

Breaking: Shawwal Crescent Not Sighted In Saudi Arabia, To Observe Eid-Ul-Fitr Wednesday

The moon sighting committee in Saudi Arabia declared that the Shawwal crescent could not be sighted in the Kingdom today. As a result, the holy month of Ramadan will continue until April 9, lasting 30 days. Based on this development, Eid-el-Fitr celebration will be observed in the Kingdom on Wednesday 10 April, 2024. The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had called on all Muslims across the Kingdom to sight the Shawwal crescent on the evening of Monday, Ramadan 29. The sighting of the Shawwal moon marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid Al Fitr. Earlier, the International Astronomical Center had said that some countries that marked the beginning of Ramadan on Monday, March 11, would expect a crescent sighting on Monday, April 8.  However, this sighting might be unclear due to the moon setting before the sun, leading to a conjunction occurring after sunset.

BREAKING: Edo Assembly impeaches deputy governor, Shaibu

  Finally, Edo State House of Assembly has impeached the deputy governor of the State, Philip Shaibu. The impeachment was sequel to the report submitted by Justice S.A. Omonua-led seven-man panel which investigated the petition against the deputy governor. The panel in its reports said the allegation of perjury was not proved beyond reasonable doubt by the complainant against the deputy governor, while that of disclosure of government official documents was proved beyond reasonable doubt against the deputy governor. At the plenary, 20 members attended,18 members voted in favour of the panel’s reports, while one voted against. The Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbrabaku directed that a clean copy of the impeachment decision by the House be sent to the Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki for assent.
