EEDC Debunks Allegation by Imo State Government

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has strongly refuted allegations by the Imo State Government that it is plotting a massive electricity outage in the state to sabotage the ongoing electricity project of the state government.

In a press statement signed by its Group Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, issued on Sunday, EEDC described the claim issued by the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba—as “baseless, unfounded, and completely devoid of truth.”

The company urged customers and the general public to disregard the allegation, insisting it has “no intention whatsoever to carry out any major power outages in the state.”

EEDC expressed disappointment over what it described as a deliberate act of propaganda by the Imo State Government, accusing it of attempting to divert public attention from its hostility towards EEDC’s operations.

The company also condemned the alleged invasion of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) station in Egbu, Owerri, by armed policemen on 15th November 2025.

According to EEDC, the officers, reportedly acting on the orders of the Imo State Government, forced TCN operators at gunpoint to shut down all feeders, plunging customers into total darkness.

“What greater act of sabotage could there be?” the company queried, stressing that the action disrupted power supply to thousands of customers and undermined efforts to stabilize electricity distribution in the state.

EEDC insisted that it has no plan to execute any major outage in Imo State but remains committed to serving customers and continues to invest in improving supply reliability and service quality.

EEDC warned that should any further outages occur, the Imo State Government should be held responsible, as its allegations are “false, unfounded, unverified, and baseless.”

The company reaffirmed its dedication to improving electricity distribution in the state and urged the government to provide an enabling environment rather than obstruct licensed operators.
