Easter Message: Stay Vigilant and Safety-Conscious Amid Rising Insecurity - Uzoyi-Peters

 


The National Guild of Private Broadcast Managers of Nigeria has expressed deep concern over the escalating wave of killings, kidnappings, and violent attacks in several parts of the country, particularly in Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Zamfara, Edo, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Benue States.


In his Easter message, delivered through the Guild’s Director of Public Affairs, Justice Kalu Amah, the National President, Amb. Patrick Uzoyi-Peters, described the growing insecurity as a grave threat not only to the general public but especially to media practitioners who often find themselves on the frontlines of information dissemination and public service.


Amb. Uzoyi-Peters urged all media professionals across Nigeria to remain vigilant and prioritize their personal safety and that of their teams.


"While we are committed to upholding press freedom and public enlightenment, no story is worth the loss of life,” he stated.


He advised media personnel to take the following precautions especially during this Easter celebration:

• Avoid high-risk areas, especially at night.

• Stay informed about flashpoints identified by security agencies.

• Maintain regular communication with your media houses and loved ones while on assignment.

• Travel in pairs or teams during fieldwork.

• Always inform someone of your whereabouts.


He also called on broadcasters and media workers to collaborate closely with local security agencies for both protection and updates on volatile regions.


"Equip your teams with emergency communication tools where possible," he added.


Amb. Uzoyi-Peters called on government authorities and security agencies to urgently address the worsening security situation to ensure that all Nigerians—especially media professionals can perform their duties without fear or harm.


Reiterating the Guild's commitment to public service, he emphasized that while the role of the media in informing and educating the public remains critical, it must not come at the expense of the broadcasters' safety.


"We urge all media practitioners to continue serving their communities with wisdom, vigilance, and unity," he said adding that "Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones in these senseless attacks”.
