I have the capacity to deliver as Enugu State Governor- Ekweremadu
Former Deputy Senate President and Senator, representing Enugu
West Senatorial Zone, Prof Senator Ike Ekweremadu has indicated interest to
contest for the Governorship position in the forth coming 2023 Elections.
During a media consultation organized on his behalf in Enugu
tagged “a pathway to a new Enugu State”, Ekwemadu revealed that Enugu State has
given him huge opportunities to serve and he intends to give back the gesture.
Citing that his leadership will be citizens driven, Ekweremadu
noted that he will restore the hope of the people by repositioning human
capital, infrastructure, tourism and welfare in the state.
While referencing his service year under former Governor Chimaraoke Nnamani, he said there was never a time a discussion on Zoning was had. “Also during the time of Sullivan Chime, such discussion was also never had on Zoning. Thank God he is alive. Enugu State is made up of four cultural zones. It is based on this that every section enjoys the privilege of governing the state and that has gone round”, Ekweremadu added.
Describing the debate on Zoning as one of the treacheries of
politics, he sited that if there was zoning in the state, he won’t have stayed
this long at the National Assembly.
Ekweremadu went further to say that he does not want to be a
Zonal Governor but the Governor of the entire Enugu State who is only
interested in delivering good governance to the people, insisting that he has the
capacity and can deliver.
On the issue of security, Ekweremadu reiterated that the Federal
system of government which allows the unitary police system makes it difficult to
combat security challenges.
He called for the introduction of state police, insisting that
under his watch, every home will have security and the response time of these
security operatives will be Swift.
Reacting to the current water scarcity in the state, he assured
the people of Enugu State that there will be water at every home within six
months of the commencement of his tenure should he become the Governor of the state.
