*BORDER CLOSURE: CP INSPECTS ENFORCEMENT AT ENUGU/KOGI BORDER; CHARGES OPERATIVES TO BE FIRM AND DUTIFUL*
CP Ahmad AbdurRahman |
In continuation of his weekly inspection tour of borders to assess the level of and enforcement of Governments' border closure and restriction of inter-states’ travels/transportation orders, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman alongside Air Commodore Chidiebere Obiabaka, Commander, 558 Services Base Group of the Nigerian Airforce and some Senior Police Officers, visited Ette/Ogugu boundary point between Enugu and Kogi States.
Addressing Police Operatives and some personnel of the Neighborhood Watch manning the border, the Commissioner, while charging them to be firm and dutiful in the enforcement duty, warned them to abide strictly by the rules of engagement, especially as regards checking and granting passage to vehicles conveying stipulated essential goods and service providers.
According to him, "don't even waste your time on them if you are sure they are conveying these permitted items or persons. But not during the overnight curfew period of 2000hrs to 0600hrs."
He made it clear that any act of conscious and deliberate obstruction of the movement of those conveying exempted food, agricultural products, petroleum and other stipulated essential items and service providers will not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner also addressed some leaders of the Ette III Autonomous Community, including Chief Oshaba Cyril Nwachukwu, the Igwe-Elect; Mr. Alachi Gilbert Onoda, President General and Hon. Agada Innocent, Councilor representing the Community at Igbo-Eze North LGA Legislative Council, who complained of how one God-day Eko (also known as Warrior) has been trying to frustrate the enforcement exercise, with the claim that the barricade point is in Kogi and not Enugu State.
Responding, the CP directed his immediate arrest if he further attempts to carry out such act of sabotage to Government's order.
He also made it clear that the enforcement exercise is purely a security affair and never a political, boundary adjustment or communal crisis mission; and as such, the leaders should further channel the report to the appropriate Government authorities.
According to the Commands Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe,
ACP Ogarabe, Assistant Commissioner, State CID; ACP Dauda Ayuba, Squadron Commander, 3 PMF Enugu; SP Adewale Abdulkareem, Commander, CTU Base 10 Enugu; and were the Senior Police Officers in the Commissioners entourage.
