Trapped Lawmakers hold Emergency Meeting along Calabar-Itu road.

Some Honourable members of the House of Representatives who were travelling from Port Harcourt to Calabar for official assignments were stuck at the bad roads from Calabar-Itu-Odukpani in Cross River and Akwa Ibom axis. The Honourable members, despite heavy security escort, got stuck for over 3 hours on the deplorable Calabar-Odukpani-Itu Road and consequently came down from their vehicles to hold an emergency press briefing, calling on the Federal Government to immediately fix the roads. An eyewitness who gave his name as Patrick Asikpo, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) gave the names of the law makers to include: Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, Hon. Ibrahim Al-Mustapha Aliyu, Hon. Haruna Mshelia, Hon. Prestige Ossy, Hon. Abiante Awaji, Hon. Anthony Ifeanyi Ibezi, Hon. Haruna Maitala, and Hon. Kolade Victor Akinjo. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Wednesday, swore in Commissioners and Special Advisers who will assist him to run the affairs of the state. Swearing in the Commissioners and Advisers, Gov. Ugwuanyi said that performance will be key and periodically benchmarked as a basis to remain in office. The governor who pointed out that his administration will not tolerate any corrupt practice, emphasized that the new appointees’ loyalty as public officers should be to God and the state. He added that they “must at all times be seen to pursue honesty, transparency, accountability, equity, justice, fairness and unalloyed commitment to your duty in the course of your service to this state”. Gov. Ugwuanyi unveils newly procured security vehicles, other strategies

Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on Wednesday, unveiled to newsmen in Enugu, the new vehicles purchased by his administration to enhance security operations at the community level. Gov. Ugwuanyi, who took the journalists round the premises of the Government House to show them the vehicles, used the opportunity to brief them on the efforts of his administration to decisively tackle the recent security challenges in the state.    The vehicles include 100 pieces of Innoson Hilux vans for use by the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, among others, for security operations. The remaining 260 vehicles, which were approved during the governor’s recent security meeting with all the members of the State Assembly, Local Government Council Chairmen, the Director of State Services (DSS) and the Security Chiefs of DSS in the council areas, will be distributed to the 260 electoral wards in the state. ...

Xenophobia: Ezekwesili, Nigerians in S'Africa meet, ask Ramphosa to apologise

A former presidential candidate in Nigeria, Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili, and leaders of the Nigerian community in Cape Town have met to proffer a solution to recurring xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The meeting held on the sidelines of the  World Economic Forum (WEF) in Cape Town, South Africa, comprising  Nigerian entrepreneurs, professionals and the Nigerian community led by Mr Cosmos Echie, the acting President of the Nigerian Community Western Cape. In a communique after the meeting, held in the form of an interactive session, the group preferred to describe the attacks as Afrophobia. THREE ARRAIGNED IN COURT FOR ASSAULTING STAFF OF EEDC

The management of Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC) is not relenting in its effort to prosecute any individual or group that assaults any of her personnel while carrying out their legitimate duties. Stressing that a situation where her staff on duty are assaulted and the perpetrators get away with it can no longer to be tolerated. This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen over the weekend by the Head of Communications, EEDC, Mr. Emeka Ezeh. According to Ezeh, just last week Wednesday, a 37 year-old man identified as Chibuzor Obidinma, an indigene of Ezinifite, Okpuno in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State was arraigned before the Anambra State Chief Magistrate Court holden at Awka for assaulting a staff of EEDC while on official duty. EEDC INVESTS IN POWER INFRASTRUCTURE, COMPLETES TWO MAJOR PROJECTS IN IMO STATE

In line with her commitment towards improving the socio-economic state of the South East region, the Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC) recently completed two major projects in Imo State. These projects, which is estimated at over 200 million Naira are: a dedicated 33KV line constructed for one of the company’s industrial customer, Alex Aluminium Company; and Oguta 33KV double circuit line. Both lines will radiate from Egbu Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Station. This development was made known to newsmen in a statement issued by the Head of Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh on Tuesday. According to Ezeh, the Alex Aluminium 33KV line has a route length of about 38 kilometers, and is designed to improve availability to the industrial customer; while the Oguta 33KV line, with double circuit, has a route length of about 11 kilometers and will feed New Owerri, Port Harcourt Road and Onitsha Road axis. Ezekwesili, others bag Weizsäcker fellowship in Germany

A prominent Nigerian, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, has been awarded a Richard von Weizsäcker Fellowship at the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin from September 2019 to February 2020. Others who bagged the fellowship are an international mediator from South Africa, Brian Currin; former Irish ambassador, David Donoghue; and former Mayor of the city of Wroclaw, Rafał Dutkiewicz. Among others are a professor of science and engineering at the Harvard Kennedy School, Sheila Jasanoff; Furosemide  Manji; and Natalie Nougayrède. Since its foundation in 2014, more than 65 decision-makers and experts from around the world have spent a residency at the Academy. Adventist women take campaign against violence to streets of Umuahia, Abia State

The Women Ministries (WMs) of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Abia North-Central Conference (ABNC) has taken its campaign against all forms of violence to major streets of Umuahia, Abia State capital city. The women, who converged on Okpara Square, marched through Gate to Lagos Street, connected Azikiwe Road, moved to Ikot Ekpene Road through School Road and terminated at Ogurube Layout. Addressing newsmen, the WMs Director, Eastern Nigeria Union Conference (ENUC) of the church, Mrs Gladys Nwokocha called for the enactment of stronger legislation that would end all forms of violence against humanity. Nwokocha said that the church was bothered by the increase in all forms of violence, especially, those targeted at the vulnerable people.
