Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State (2nd left); his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo (left); chairman of the Governing Council,  Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwolo, Mr. Chinedu Onu;  and a member of the council, Mr. Julius Ogbuka shortly after their inauguration at Government House, Enugu, yesterday.

The chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Alhaji Garuba Mohammed, has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his unrelenting support towards repositioning the educational sector in the state.
The NBTE boss spoke during the official inauguration of the Governing Council of the Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, in Ezeagu Local Government Area, held at the Government House, Enugu, on Tuesday.

Alhaji Mohammed noted that the elevation of the former College of Agriculture to a polytechnic status by the governor will provide the needed manpower and materials which the country requires in its quest for food security.

“We came and saw some of the programmes being offered by the institution in the areas of management and engineering programmes and what we saw impressed us. This is the first time we are seeing an institution having so much focus on becoming a centre of excellence in agriculture. We commend you,” he noted.

Governor Ugwuanyi noted that since inception, his administration has continued to prioritize the improvement of the education sector at all levels, adding that, it is wholly dedicated to the development of skilled manpower in agriculture and promoting entrepreneurship in agribusiness at the Enugu State Polytechnic.

He said it was consistent with this goal that his administration has been painstaking in selecting the polytechnic's new council members based on their individual repute, experience and competence to drive the aspirations of the government and the institution towards the full accreditation and the revalidation of all its courses.

The governor explained, “I am therefore, confident that you will deploy your abilities and energies to achieve the goals for the benefit of our children and society at large".

Chairman of the council, Hon. Chinedu Onu, who spoke on behalf of members, thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for considering them worthy, adding that the appointment offers them an ample opportunity to serve the state.

“I want to appreciate Your Excellency for finding us worthy to offer our service to the people of Enugu State. This platform provided by the governor will assist us in changing the fortunes of that institution for the better,” he said, and assured of their determination to meet the state government’s vision for the institution.
