Lagos Rep objects to planed relocation of Appa trailers to Amuwo-Odofin
The Member representing
Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House of
Representatives, Hon. Emmanuel Oghene Ego has condemned the attempt
being made by the Lagos State Government to relocate petrol tankers from
Apapa to International Trade Fair Complex in his constituency.
Egoh, is of the opinion
that the trade fair and its environ was already over congested and that
the vehicular traffic between Orile-Mile 2,Trade-Fair and Okokomaiko was
so heavy that it would be a big mistake to compound the traffic problem
by bringing tankers as well trailers to that location.
He further expressed his
displeasure over this development, noting that there had been an
endless agony on Lagos-Badagry Expressway on daily basis as well as a
lot of robbery activities and accident due to the gridlock in that
area.
Ego said: "The road is
already congested by Lagos State University students, Iyanu-oba Market
Traders, Vehicles and traffic on the international route that link
Nigeria to other ECOWAS countries such as Republic of Benin, Togo, Ghana
and Burkina Faso as well as other countries".
"This inconsiderate
attempt to relocate trucks and trailers from Apapa to Lagos
International Trade Fair Complex along Lagos-Badagry Express way will
definitely cause further environmental degradation to the good people of
Amuwo Oodofin and will also make the entire Trade Fair Complex less
attractive to investors".
He therefore reinstated
his rejection of the idea which he said was capable of causing more loss
of lives and property as he appealed to the state government not to
support this inconsiderate move as it will compound the challenges they
were facing.
