GOVERNOR IFEANYI UGWUANYI GIVES SUCCOUR TO ENUGU CIVIL SERVANTS ON HOUSING
Enugu State Executive Council has approved the
release of the sum of Thirty-Five Million Naira as ten percent equity
contribution for the purchase of 100 units of one- bedroom flats for civil servants
in the state civil service on grade level 01 to grade level 10 at Elim Estate, Ibagwa Nike Enugu to alleviate their
accommodation challenges.
While briefing the Government
House Press at the end of the council’s meeting presided over by Governor Ifeanyi
Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu,
the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele noted that the
beneficiaries of the housing scheme would emerge from a ballot system.
He explained that the process of selecting
would-be beneficiaries would be such that all qualified and interested workers
would participate, adding that the 90% balance to be paid by civil servants would be
deducted from their salaries in such a way that it would not inconvenience
them.
The commissioner who was accompanied
in the press briefing by his Ministry of Works and Infrastructure counterpart,
Engr. Patrick Ikpenwa and Commissioner for Transport Mr. Vitus Okechi noted
that the payment will spread for 18 to 20 years.
While fielding questions from
journalists, the commissioner noted that the balloting would be done at Okpara Square where
everybody would witness what is being done, adding that it would be
transparent.
In his words, “It is not
going to be the normal politics where you remove one ballot; we are not going
to remove anything.”
He added that the 17 local
government areas in the state would be adequately represented in the exercise
The State Information
Commissioner informed the press that the council has also approved the
appointment of Diyoke Construction Company Limited for a consultancy services
in the dualization of Opi – Nsukka road, following a request from the
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr Patrick Ikpenwa.
According to Dr. Udeuhele,
the company was approved for the services based on it satisfactory past records
in handling such projects.
In another
development, the
commissioner informed the press that the council approved the
revalidation of
the earlier approved rehabilitation of Airport – Round About – Orie
Emene – St. Patrick’s College and Eke Obinagu roads at a contract
sum of four hundred and forty-seven million, nine hundred and fifty-two
thousand, one hundred and ninety-five naira, three kobo (N447,952,195.03) to enhance speedy construction of the road to
alleviates the suffering encountered by the road users in the area.
