Nnamdi Azikiwe University Appoints Prof Benard Odoh Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, led by its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Greg Mbadiwe, has appointed Prof. Benard Odoh as the seventh substantive Vice Chancellor. Prof Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh Odoh, a professor of geophysics from the Department of Applied Geophysics, Faculty of Physical Sciences of the University, emerged as the VC after a rigorous screening and interview from among no fewer than 18 other applicants. EEDC ANNOUNCES GENERAL SYSTEM COLLAPSE

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has informed it's esteemed customers of a general system collapse that occurred at 18:48 hours today, 14th October, 2024.  According to a statement issued by EEDC Head, Corporate Communication, Emeka Eze, the collapse has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across EEDC network. Consequently, due to this development, all our according to him "interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra,  Ebonyi,  Enugu, and Imo States". "We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo. 

Libyan Airport: Nigeria Super Eagles pulls out of AFCON qualifier

This follows a frustrating 12-hour ordeal at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya, where the team has been stranded since their arrival on Sunday afternoon. It was reported that the Nigerian delegation was en route to Benghazi for the crucial qualifier when their chartered aircraft was dangerously diverted mid-flight to Al Abraq, a small airport typically reserved for hajj operations. The unexpected diversion left players and officials stranded without any assistance from the Libyan Football Federation, which failed to provide transportation. EEDC TO MASSIVELY DISCONNECT INDEBTED CUSTOMERS

  The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has announced to its customers that it will be embarking on massive disconnection of those owing the company.  EEDC advised indebted customers to promptly pay their electricity bills before the disconnection team gets to their premises, as failure to do so will attract a reconnection fee in addition to the outstanding amount. In an announcement released by the Head of Communications, EEDC, Emeka Eze, customers can pay their bills at the EEDC Cash Offices or any collection agent location nearest to them, while insisting they must not wait for the Marketers to visit before they can pay their bills. It is expected that the current electricity bill, which is for energy consumed in the previous month is paid by the 12th day of the succeeding month, and customers that have arrears should endeavour to clear their bills or take advantage of the ongoing discount scheme it advised. HURIWA Urges NJC to Sanction Judges Issuing Frivolous Court Orders Amid Rivers Crisis

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has expressed deep concern over the increasing issuance of frivolous court orders and ex-parte injunctions by judges, particularly in politically sensitive cases. Citing the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State as an example, HURIWA urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to immediately sanction judicial officers involved in these actions, warning that such practices could jeopardize Nigeria’s constitutional democracy. The political turmoil in Rivers State, intensified by conflicting court orders from various judges, mirrors Nigeria’s troubled political history and threatens the stability of its democratic processes. National Assembly Will Tinker With Existing Legislations To Guarantee Full LG Autonomy- Akpabio

Breaking: Enugu Capital Territory knocks down Fidelity Bank fence

  Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority on Friday demolished the barricade fence of Fidelity Bank by Rangers Avenue.  The see through metal fence which was erected recently according to investigation was meant to ward off hawkers who hang around the premises of the bank during night hours.  It was gathered that despite warning by the state capital Territory not to erect the said fence as it encroached on the green area, the bank insisted on getting a formal notification before they can taminate the project.  The current administration of Governor Peter Mbah has been strict on maintaining the green areas as well as pedestal walk way and has not spared any culprit regardless of status or ownership.  So far not statement has been issued by the management of Fidelity Bank or Capital Territory. 

Bobrisky: HURIWA asks House of Reps to jail Correctional Service chief over alleged perjury

  Bobrisky Even as the Nigerian Correctional Service officially debunked the reported testimony by a top official of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) by reaffirming that the suspension of its senior officials allegedly involved in the N15 million bribery allegations surrounding the embattled crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, the parliament has been tasked to sanction the said official for allegedly lying under oath by claiming that he wasn't suspended from duty as widely reported by the media.  According to the Rights group, the reaffirmation comes after Michael Anugwa, the deputy comptroller of corrections (DCC) in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kirikiri, Lagos State, downplayed his suspension.
